How to Drug Proof Your Kids
Testimonials
I was extremely pleased when I heard that the, How to Drug Proof Your Kids (DPYK) program was coming to Cochrane. Cochrane is a supporter of Alberta's Promise, a movement that is focused on directing more resources to benefit our children and youth. The DPYK program is a natural tie in with Alberta's Promise as it raises awareness in both parents and children on the effects of drug use. Perhaps more importantly it provides parents with the skills and knowledge to have the difficult discussions with their children regarding all aspects of drug use. I strongly support the “How to Drug Proof Your Kids” program and believe that it CAN make an overall difference to our community.Ken Bech
Mayor of Cochrane
Cochrane, Alberta
As a health professional, I have been repeatedly asked to provide information on drugs that are available to our young people and how we might “Drug Proof our Kids”. From surveys it is evident that children want their parents to talk to them about drugs, providing them with ‘factual’ rather than ‘hearsay’ information. In fact, surveys reveal that when parents do provide this information, drug use by their offspring is less. I have informally reviewed the program “How to Drug Proof Your Kids”. This is an excellent initiative and has my wholehearted support.

My eyes were opened not only the to accessibility of drugs but how to identify them as well. How to Drug Proof Your Kids gave me simple ways to actively be in my kids' lives and stay there! I didn't realize until taking this course how much I can do now (my kids are elementary age) to impact and influence their choices regarding drugs and other pinnacle decisions they may need to make later on in life.

How to Drug Proof Your Kids offers parents strategies and skills to impact the behaviors and attitudes of their children's lifestyles and to examine their own beliefs and attitudes. This program offers to make a difference in communities across Canada and to build a future for families and the children of tomorrow.
Hon. Iris Evans (PC)
Minister of Children's Services
Government of Alberta
MLA for Sherwood Park
The way parents act and the attitudes they hold have a powerful influence on the lifestyle choices made by their children. As Minister of Learning, I support efforts to parents with the tools they need to address drug-related issues with their children and to examine the impact of their own attitudes, beliefs, and behaviours on their children.
I welcome the contribution of programs such as How to Drug Proof Your Kids in working collaboratively with AADAC (Alberta Alcohol and Drug Abuse Commission) and other ministries to provide resources and training programs for parents who feel they need them as part of our efforts in reducing the misuse of drugs in the province.
Dr. Lyle Oberg
Minister of Learning
Government of Alberta
I knew that this program would have an astounding impact on parent-teen and parent-preteen relationships, but what I didn't expect were the comments from parents who have come to me and thanked me for helping them to reconcile with THEIR parents after years of aggravation and fighting.
